"South Central feels like home. It is familiar. It feels comfortable. It makes me feel like I am where I belong and that I fit in. I feel like South Central is a blanket that protects me from the outside. Even though Soutentral is dirty, mixed and half destroyed, it is still what makes me feel like I am accepted." |

"South Central feels like there’s danger on every corner. The floor or concrete feels uneven. The knowing that one wrong step will end in you screaming in pain because you just rolled your ankle. Everything feels dirty. If you run your fingers across a building, you’ll find your fingers black with dirt and grime. The only thing that feels nice, warm, clean and safe is the sweater you usually have on." |

"I feel at home in South Central. I feel comfortable enough to be able to walk around. I feel the broken concrete that the tree roots have broken. I feel the fresh air from under the trees that I pass by. Sometimes I feel unsafe when I see people against the wall with beer. I also feel unsure when I walk through an alley." |

"What is feels like is dangerous because every time I walk home, no matter if it’s with someone, I feel like I’m being followed or watched since there are many bad people. I also feel calm since it’s so quiet at points where you could hear the birds and cars move. Every time I walk in the rain I feel relieved of my worries but also cold." |

“South Central feels like a community where everybody helps each other out. It feels like the donut shop on the corner where the Asian ladies give me fresh donut holes and crispy apple fritters for a dollar. It feels like after school car rides around the block or to McDonalds with my dad. It feels like the hummingbirds that come to my garden at 4 o’clock when I come home from school. It also feels like sunny days when I can read and jump on my trampoline. “ |
